As a single parent household I ( Maureen) have a special interest in what barriers exist in order for people in my situation to attain economic stability. I have been reading a report from Change The Story VT, which is an initiative to align policy, program, and philanthropy to fast track women’s economic status in VT. Their status report titled ‘Women, Work and Wages in Vermont’ found families headed by single women have a poverty rate of 35.7%, which is 9 times the rate of families with married couples. What actions can we take to support economic equity and opportunity for women in our community?
